Abiola Odejide

meritus Professor Abiola Odejide (Nee Ayoade) was born in Ibadan on April 17, 1946. She attended Yejide Girls’ Grammar School, Ibadan; Queen’s College, Yaba, Lagos; University of Ibadan, 1965-1968, (B.A English); Moray House College of Education, Edinburgh, 1972-1973; University of Leeds, Leeds England 1973-74 (M.A In Linguistics and English Language Teaching) and University of Ibadan, Ph.D. English, 1986.
She lectured in the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan from 1974 to 2011. Her teaching and extensive research fields were in Language Skills Development, Children’s Literature and Gender Studies. She served as the first female Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Academic) of the University between 2004 and 2006.
She became a Fellow of the Nigerian Association of Letters in 2011 and Emeritus Professor, 2014. She led the initiative to prepare the University of Ibadan’s Gender Policy and Sexual Harassment Policy.
