Delali Kumavie is Assistant Professor in English at Syracuse University, USA. She earned her doctoral degree in English from Northwestern University in Evanston and was postdoctoral fellow at the Mahindra Humanities Institute at Harvard University. Her current research project examines the intersection of Blackness with aviation by interrogating conventional interpretations of air, space, and aviation through spatial analyses, theories of cosmopolitanism, and globality as obscuring the racial violence that is woven into the fabric of these sites. Reading across the spectrum of African and Black literatures, she argues that air travel, aviation technologies, and infrastructure must be viewed within the instantiation of global racial structures through slavery, the middle passage, colonialism, and their persisting remains. She has published or has pieces forthcoming in Postcolonial Text, Propter Nos, Substance, and English Language Notes.
