Feminist Africa hosts transformative writing workshops that provide early career scholars across the continent with the tools, mentorship, and community needed to bring their feminist research into published form. These intensive workshops equip scholars with the skills, mentorship, and community support needed to turn their feminist research into peer-reviewed academic publications.
As part of its commitment to anti-imperialist, anti-colonial scholarship and its ethos of “building skills as it grows,” Feminist Africa continues to build feminist intellectual capacity through training, collaboration, and mentorship.
Designed as immersive four-day writing retreats, the workshops offer a rare and exciting opportunity for young African scholars—especially women—to deepen their understanding of feminist methodologies, sharpen their writing, and prepare their work for peer-reviewed publication.
Benefits of the Feminist Africa Writing Workshops:

These workshops may occur once or twice a year and are open to early career researchers based in Sub-Saharan Africa who have completed their PhDs within the last five years—or are nearing completion—and who are employed at a recognized academic or research institution. Applicants must submit a draft research paper, a motivation letter, an abstract, a CV, and proof of PhD status.
Feminist Africa announces upcoming workshops via a formal Call for Applications. The application process includes submitting a draft research paper, a motivation letter, an abstract, a CV, and proof of PhD status. Full details are available on the Call for Applications page.
Participants whose work demonstrates strong potential may also be invited to submit their articles to the journal via a formal Call for Submission. Visit the Submissions page for past and current Call for Applications and to learn more about publishing in Feminist Africa, one of the continent’s leading journals in gender and feminist studies.
